The C8 Corvette Stingray is probably the premier opus of the brand. It is not only powerful but equally fantastic when it comes to aesthetics and appearance. Despite success in the market, it faced numerous issues and setbacks.
One of the troubles encountered was the COVID-19 pandemic. Plants and supplier lines were forced to shut down because of lockdown restrictions imposed. This significantly delayed the production of the C8s. Quality-control issues riddled the car, too.
The light at the end of the tunnel is the 2020 model year finished production. Now it’s time for 2021 production. And the 2021 model year of the C8 Corvette has the same price as its recent predecessor. Furthermore, it comes with new colors and accessories, too.
But at the same time, some of the accessories of the first-generation C8 were removed from the accessory catalog. Among them are the car cover and high-wing spoiler.
The latest accessory that has been cut from Corvette’s brochure is the illuminated sill plates. According to Corvette Concierge, Chevrolet dealers have been informed that this particular component will be removed from all 2021 Corvette orders. The reason is primarily due to supply problems. It is somewhat incorrigible, too, as this issue will remain throughout the production run. It might return in 2022, but there’s still no certainty.
The exact cause of why there’s a supply issue has not been published. But we can place our bets that it is due to the coronavirus pandemic again.
Of course, these illuminated door sills are not that significant of an accessory to many Corvette enthusiasts. However, we have no qualms that a lot will miss it, too. Fortunately, there are still cool accessories that customers can opt for, such as the Ground Effects package.
