When in Germany and you have a fast car, you have to take the Autobahn. It is a series of highways that mostly don’t have any speed limits. But why do these roads have no speed limits? According to insiders, it is due to the influence of the automotive industry in Germany’s economy. After all, the country is the producer of some of the world’s fastest cars.
Many have taken advantage of testing the velocity of their vehicles in Autobahn. We have seen Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin Vantage, and other ultra-fast cars on these scarily fast highways. In September, a Corvette Z06 hit 198 miles per hour on these German highways.
But we all know the faster you go, the more danger you can encounter. This time, an unnamed driver of a 2020 BMW M4 had a near taste of disaster while driving a high rate of speed on the Autobahn.
A video posted by the YouTube channel “Your Cameraman” shows what it is like to drive on German Autobahn A5 to Frankfurt–a highway with no speed limits. Sure, it is fun and exhilarating. But the consequences can be pretty fatal.
Around 49 seconds in the video, you can see that the driver of the BMW M4 is already hitting 280 km/h. You can hear how he quickly slammed the brakes of the M4 due to the Mazda suddenly switching lanes without looking that there’s a speed demon behind.
According to the uploader, those involved in this near-accident could have done better. Here is the following statement:
“I should have driven a bit slowly; the Mazda driver should have checked the mirror twice to get good speed estimation before changing the lane and should not have changed two lanes at once. The Ford driver should not have driven on the third lane when the two on the right were empty.”
Of course, this video also shows the power of the BMW M4 brakes!
Do your due diligence and check your mirrors before changing lanes. Never know when a fast car will sneak up on you. It could save a lot of lives!
